Overview:
The ILM Level 3 Certificate in Leadership and Management Skills aims to give practising or potential first line managers the foundation for their formal development in this role. The qualification does this by developing the participants leadership and management skills and providing them with the underpinning knowledge and understanding required at this level.

Solving Problems and Making Decisions:
In this mandatory unit participants explore to how identify, analyse and resolve problems and to make effective decisions. Participants are introduced to a variety of tools and techniques including, the OSCAR model, creative thinking, force field analysis, gap analysis, cause and effect diagrams and SWOT analysis. Participants learn how to effectively plan the implementation, communication and evaluation of the decisions they have made. The unit provides participants with the skills they need to think strategically and creatively, to analysis information and break it into logical, relevant, and easily digestible chunks, to plan and prioritise the workload and to generate creative solutions that meet the current and future needs of the customer and business
Introduction to Leadership:
This mandatory unit introduces participants to the concepts of leadership and personal effectiveness and explores the leaderships, communication and interpersonal skills needed to become an effective manager and leader. The unit will help participants to develop the communication, coaching and interpersonal skills they need to become personally effective and to successfully lead others. Participants explore the difference (and similarities) between leadership and management and are introduced to a variety of leadership models and assessment tools that enables them to review their leadership style, assess their leadership qualities and potential. The unit will provide participants with the skills and knowledge to use the leadership style and leadership tools appropriate to the different situations they will face in the workplace.
Leading a Team Effectively:
This mandatory unit enables participants to understand the importance of teamwork and the key characteristics of a high performing team. The unit provides them with the skills and knowledge they need to build a high performing team and to tap the creativity of people at all levels in order to become an effective team/group leader and manager. Participants explore the role of vision, motivation and communication and review the impact that their leadership and communication style has on the morale, motivation and performance of the team and individual team members.
